Dr Peter Gunn
Psychoanalyst

Welcome

If we are tossed by the waves of life we can use
those waves to power our love

I am a psychoanalyst. I offer psychoanalysis and psychoanalytically-oriented counselling to individual adults and to couples.

About

Why See Me?

I am a psychoanalyst. What this means, first and foremost, is that I listen. Whatever your difficulty, just being listened to closely by someone who is neither a friend nor a family member may provide some immediate relief.

Why Psychoanalysis?

Whilst talking about your present problems is helpful it is often only a beginning. Over the course of several interviews you may come to recognise a pattern in what you tell me, a pattern of suffering in your life. Psychoanalysis is then a possibility. In the initial phase of the work I will assess whether this longer-term work might be appropriate for you.

pic03About Me

I have twenty-five years’ experience in both public and private settings. I am recognised as a psychoanalyst by The Freudian School of Melbourne, School of Lacanian Psychoanalysis, and I am accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers as a Mental Health Social Worker. I frequently present lectures, papers and seminars on clinical and theoretical issues both within The Freudian School of Melbourne and in other forums.

Who Sees Me?

People come with a wide range of problems. These include relationship difficulties, anger, loneliness and suicidality, sexual problems, including gender identity, marriage and parenting issues, issues relating to childhood sexual abuse, as well as mental health problems, including anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder.
